Alexander Wang x H&M

Yesterday I checked out the collaboration.
Stock photos and shots on models don’t help me understand what the clothes are like in real life – hence making a point to see the clothes in person.

This structured wool motor jacket is my personal favorite.

This is a strong sports inspired monochromatic collection for a very specific customer.

My overall impression is that these are quality pieces.  Most is made from thick neoprene, suede, leather or the fabric made for sports t-shirts with mesh inserts.  I saw a couple of work out sports tops for women that you would literally work out in but are sleek enough to actually layer under a bomber if that’s your style.  I say pick one key piece to incorporate into your wardrobe.   If you are in the market for a sports like jacket that’s in a mid to heavier weight then check out the collection because it’s there.  All the outerwear feels structured and it’s all mostly oversized.  Many of the sports jackets are HUGE and are in matte black or are in reflective, holographic materials.  Everything is black with only white or silver as accents.
The WANG logo is apparent throughout and used in design details like the embossed cropped tops or across the back of jackets, but it’s also discreetly placed on zipper pulls or for some pieces, does not appear at all which I liked.

My favorite pieces are the structured wool motor jacket and the first sweatshirt shown above but in white (yes – it comes in white).

The collection will be in stores and online November 6.

Thank you so much for this post! I was so iffy about the pieces when I saw the lookbook and show but these shots and your commentary have assured me on getting at least one piece from the collection.

Beautiful photos, Karen. You know, I always feel a little bit miffed because I can’t ever get my hands on any of these collections, but this time, I’m not that bothered. I find that I’m not in love with any of it. (Still wishing I could have got some of the Isabel Marant collection, though.)

I hear you. For me I really liked only a couple of pieces. Yes the Marant collection was insane. It’s still my fave one and I still wear the pieces that I found. Good luck! Ebay is your place now for stuff from the collection.

Thank you as always for the love shots and the honesty about the pieces of the collection.

No problem. I think it’s only fair to share what these collabs really look like up close.

I was hoping for a lot more from this collection but there are some nice things. I do like the mesh shorts for working out and I agree about the sports bras. The bikini is cute too but not for me since I’m too top heavy for a tube top. The wool coat is great. I will go see these pieces in person but this is my least fav collabo and Wang is one of my fav designers. I’m digging the belt too…I have a few dresses and oversized shirts that this could work on.

Interesting, but not something I will spend my money on. Sorry Mr Wang.
