So I’m trying out Vidal Sasson Pro Series products to see if they can fix two hair issues: flat head and dry hair. The Vidal Sassoon name’s been around forever. I remember growing up hearing about VS as the line to use for salon-like products.  Never tried them but did for the first time after seeing their new affordable line that’s supposed to still be good.  Plus each is under $5 or $10.
Experiment 1: On a bloody cold day with flat head hair
I get flat hair when it’s straight especially after day 3 so I wanted to make it look fuller and make the blow out last longer.  I tried the Boost & Lift spray on the roots of dry hair.   I am not a hair spray person but hate limp flat hair so am up for trying whatever might work.  Before leaving the house, I tipped my head upside down and sprayed it into the roots.  In pic 2 is the best post sprayed look. No more flat head and the effect lasted for the day. Still getting used to using a hair spray but it’s good finding something light weight with an instant volumizing effect without looking like hair candy floss.
Outfit wise: No hiding day 3 hair under a hat so skipped it and wore a vintage coat, loads of layers, oversized Ray Bans + lipstick.

Experiment 2:  On a mild day with dry hair/need a good conditioner
Having chemically relaxed/colored hair, it dries out easily so I wanted to find a good moisturizing conditioner.  I tried the Vidal Sassoon One Minute Mask on wet hair (kept it on for 3/4 ish mins) and then the Heat Protect & Shine Spray before drying. The hair came out softer and not dry Tip: I don’t leave any conditioner on for over 4 minutes.
Outfit wise:  School girl dress + groomed hair which so reminds me of going to school in London!  Only difference is I go with creepers now plus the hair style is less ‘wtf was I thinking’ than when growing up (I have school pics that’d shock you).

Let me know if you try anything and check out their facebook page for more on the line.

Oh my goodness, bringing back major memories, the blue dress reminds me of my school uniform. That animal print coat is fantastic!

So how do these products compare to the Paul Mitchell products you tried a few months ago? I haven’t been able to find those yet, but if you’re still searching, I’m assuming that you didn’t care for the Mitchell line. Sigh…

I watched the Vidal Sassoon documentary on Showtime the other night. Sounds as if he was truly a wonderful person. It’s quite something when even a man’s ex-wife speaks well of him! I still remember their TV commercials from when I was a kid: “if you don’t look good, we don’t look good.”

I know that he sold his company many years before his death, but I didn’t realize that they made products for ethnic hair.

Hi Sinead – how are you? The Paul Mitchell was about using it on curly hair to makes waves and curls etc I am using the VS ones on straight hair 🙂

Love your lip color! My hair use to be so thick but then i started cutting it with lots of angles and layers..now when I blow dry it its flat as an can be which is great but it doesn’t show the body and the texture it is once its all done up with hair spray and whatever else you can use. ( I model full time so I like to do less when Im not working.) Thanks so much for these tips! it helped a lot

looking forward to your next blog,
    best,
    Nina

I noticed your tip about the length of time to leave a conditioner in. Do you mind explaining your reasoning behind this I was just curious?

  8. Karen says:

Asia – I’ve noticed that I get better results leaving a conditioner on my hair wet for about 2 to 3 minutes. I used to think leaving it on longer was better but my hair ended up dryer if I left it on for about 15/20 minutes. Don’t know why – maybe it just dries out the hair or something? I was always confused until a friend gave me that advice to leave it on for just 2 minutes and it works better. Odd but true.

Instyledeals – I know what you mean!! I HATE flat hair with no body. It’s the WORST. NP.

I remember my school uniform that was just like that in the 3rd grade. So cute!

  10. Sinead says:

    Hi Karen.
    I’m well. Thanks for asking!
And thanks for the clarification. Looks like I’ll have to try both products now. Your hair looks great. Is there a particular flat iron that you like, or do you leave that to the professionals?
