Sharing some bag photos that caught my attention over the past few months.
Plus a little commentary on the 'It Bag'...

I love this clear back pack! Looks so fresh no? This picture was taken outside Milk Studios. Amongst a sea of it bags spotted that afternoon, his to me stood out the most for the day.

This is Amanda with her studded back pack. You can see the original photo here. Her's is from a Japanese shop but I like this smaller version found online.

Vintage never gets old does it? (excuse the pun)

I remember stopping her because of her leather jacket (an eBay find), then as she walked away I caught the bag (Proenza Schouler). This one gets the look for less $$ as does any structured bag with similar hardware placement.

Look at this color....

The cutest little lady like bag in a beautiful claret red. Reminds me of this DVF in a similar colour.

The black furry bag in the first photo was designed by the person carrying it. I remember asking her at the time because it looks so luxe and simple. I'm looking to weed out some bags myself, so this post is good inspiration to see what style people around the city are using and focus on what I should get rid of.
On a separate note:
Do I need get out of New York and see if the whole popularity of carrying the latest 'It Bag' is less elsewhere? It's been so long since I've gone to Europe that I can't draw a personal comparison. I speak in very general terms here, not individuals, but I did notice when moving to New York the high number of people that carry the latest bag of the
Perhaps I am wrong? Is it just a NY thing or is this too general of a statement? When speaking with photographers who travel regularly to the major cities abroad, I've heard them whisper that it's more noticeable to them in New York than elsewhere.
What's it like in your city? Especially if it's a major one. Do you tend to see people (mostly women), carrying the same trending label or not?

hey!
ReplyDeleteLove the leo bag!

I am living in Berlin, Germany and it is the same here. All the pretty rich girls are carrying a Celine trapeze bag and the hipsters are wearing Fjällräven backpacks...
ReplyDeleteI really love this type of posts! as we can review again the best pics of the streetstyle!

Being born and raised in London and having lived in New York the last five years. On my return to my hometown, you definitely see more people sporting the latest bag in NYC. Don't get wrong London is a very close second!
ReplyDeleteI think in London everyone seems to have a designer bag, but not necessary the latest it bag per se. So almost the same!
ReplyDeleteI don't really see people carrying it bags in DC. Everyone seems to carry the same LVs and Chanels day in and day out!
ReplyDeletehmmmm.....you really have me thinking now!!! cause i used to live in london as well and moved to new york. i think london is more eccentric and unique but i do notice a lot more people here in nyc carry the designer bags from the latest seasons. this is very much true!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a little like that everywhere... I LOVE the dark brown leather purse in the 5th (I think) pic!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder the same thing about IT bags. Personally give me a Kate Spade bag on sale and I'm a happy camper. The only people I know (in San Francisco) that carry IT bags are fashion bloggers - the most popular ones being Celine and Rebecca Minkoff. I'd rather spend the money on jewelry or clothes. Or honestly, for the price of a Celine bag I'd rather take a vacation! I often wonder who the women are (besides fashion bloggers) that buy these bags. I do have one artist friend who pretty much buys every designer thing she wears from eBay, and saves for months to afford a 2nd hand IT bag - which she obviously doesn't change every season. But yeah, I'm curious to know, so please do some digging and report back :)

in maine (and granted, we're not a fashion capital) there is no one trend we can point a finger at. but everytime i'm in nyc visiting family i see the trends very obviously: isabel marant sneakers and bromley bags? over it! i'm more of a "i'm-the-only-one-who-owns-this" fan. plus our area is way more into thrifting and less into fast fashion.
ReplyDeleteNew York City has nothing on South Korea! That's where your find the it bag of the month, week and day!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the black fur and love the brown vintage with the buckle. Both so simple and elegant.

Love all of these! The closest major city that everyone knows is Boston, and most people aren't carrying any 'it' pieces, let alone bags. I love Boston but it's not the most on trend place in the world. Less of a complaint, more of an observation. I do however, notice that it's a huge thing with bloggers, the 'it' item. It seems like there are an infinite amount of ways to style a camo anorak, a Celine tote, a baseball cap, etc. Haha

Here in Tampa there are plenty of expensive bags, but nothing chic or unusual. An Alexander Wang (seen once), or Proenza Schouler (never seen) will absolutely turn heads in a sea of Louis Vuittons and Chanels.
ReplyDeleteI'm here in Nashville and even though the fashion crowd here is growing in spades, i have to say for the most part that the rich crowd will often be spotted wearing a Chanel or LV. The hipster crowd here is more into vintage especially Dooney & Bourke and Coach with a splash of Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. I do often see inspired bags similar to those like Rebecca Minkoff and Proenza but I can't say that those carrying the bag will even know what those were inspired by initially.
