the cut

The before

The 2 minutes later

Cannot stop wearing ankle boots so I cut my vintage Fryes.
Already got these tall blacks

Question for you: Go this short or keep as is?

Talk to me.

  1. I would have never put scissors to vintage but since it's been done, keep it that length. The slouch look is nice. Any shorter and you'll wonder what the hell have I done?!

  10. I kind of like the slouch of the length it is now, it gives more character to the boot

  11. that had to be at least a little traumatic to do. very nice result though.

  12. Love these boots! How tall are you? You look tall so I would say, keep it as is, or cut it just smidgen shorter. Sadly my stocky legs on my petite frame would look kind of weird, imbalanced.

  13. Drop the scissors and back slowly away from the boots - they're the perfect height now! BTW, I'm a long time fan and first time comment-er. I must confess I'm rather obsessed with your blog and your style speaks to me in a language all it's own. And it's BEAUTIFUL. I, too, rock the "hippie with an edge" look and you inspire me everyday in more ways than one. Keep up the good work!

  19. I have been looking for a pair of boots to do this to forever! Yours are perfect. If they were mine, I would wear them for a while like they are, then cut them again later. I love changing things up!

As someone who hates parting with the abandoned items in corners of my closet, I really appreciate this well-done DIY.

    And keep this length!! xo

  44. Omgosh! How are you so awesome?! These rock!

  45. go shorter! I got a vintage black pair of "cowboy-shoes" and have been wearing them to death, both summer and winter.

    ReplyDelete
  46. it was veery good idea to cut them into short instead of having them loong! They look much better that way!

  48. literally did this to 2 pairs of mine yesterday. i went below the ankle cuz anything higher makes my legs look stubby.

any suggestions on where i can buy boot harnesses?

    ReplyDelete
  49. OMG I totally thought about doing this because I've been having a hard time find boots low enough in the ankle for me! I would go shorted, but that's because I'm short, but your tall so I think either would work!

    ReplyDelete
  50. SHORTER! :) i love ankle cowboy boots, need to find myself some, although DIYing them seems like a fun idea :)

  51. i spotted a DIY like this a while back, can't find i but this will do

  55. I like them long, and I like them short! I personally couldnt have cut my vintage boots! the color is so unique but thats because I have an obsession with brown distressed boots! I still love it shorter, and at least you know you are probably the only one who did that, so your boots are unique.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Did you just literally cut them across with scissors? Won't the stitching fray/boots fall apart?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow.... Love them. Cutting it makes it looks saucy and chic. You have it all! I found that kind of designed ankle boots at makemechic.com.
