This is the last post of 2010 and it's to say thank you for following this blog. It's stating the obvious, but it wouldn't be where it is now if it wasn't for you lot checking in and supporting me.
***
It really means a lot. You keep me going. Feels weird but it's like I've made all these friends that I've just not met in person (yes - I'm talking about you).
***
Happy New Year and see you in 2011!

winter indian

Drawstring bag: DIY studded (Remember this flashback last year?). Grey top, cardigan & hat: ASOS. Boots: Jeffrey Campbell (Solestruck). Crochet necklace: Texas airport. Wool leg warmers: H&M
***
Sorry! Almost forgot these pics (buried in my photo libary). I wore this ages ago when showing bare skin was still ok temp wise.
***
The crochet purse necklace was picked up at the airport while returning from Texas. It's teeny but the colours pop. Plus the Navajo feel got me.

fuzzy

Jacket: Vintage. Grey jumper: Men's H&M. Harem jeans: H&M. Bag: Forever 21. Boots: Jeffrey Campbell. Gloves: Street vendor (unseen)
***
This is the static version of the vid I just posted. I remember when I found this jacket (posted here in July). The big collar got me but when I picked it up and saw pom poms swinging I thought 'ok - I need this.' Not that we need pom poms but it's like when discovering that dress you bought has side pockets: It's an unexpected surprise.

These pics are from a few days ago. Right now we're digging out of a 2 foot snow dump. Did you see the snow pics I posted on twitter???!! I'll add a couple to my facebook in a bit.

before the storm

Fur jacket: Vintage. Harem jeans: H&M. Boots: Jeffrey Campbell @ LF (also at Solestruck). Bag: Forever 21.

Right now New York is a giant snow globe and I'm in doors.

Before the storm and before going away for Christmas we did a quick vid (outfit shots to follow).

Stay warm people. It's a blizzard outside...

diy your own christmas gift

I threaded long suede tassles through the rim of the disc plate and tied each tassle in place
Using small pliars, I removed the hanging discs and chains hanging underneath the disc plate
I also removed the chains that hang around the neck and replaced them with more suede tassles. I added random knots along each tassle (I'll probably add some more)
The final piece.
I left a few chain strands hanging to mix with the tassles
Poncho: Spanish Moss. Suede fringe necklace: DIY
***
Inspired by this post showing fringed necklaces, I decided to have a go and make my own.
***
I found the tassles years ago and kept them knowing I could always use them one day.
***
Anyway Merry Christmas everyone. What are your plans? I'm off to make apple crumble and wrap last minute things. The above necklace is my own gift to me (I've always loved fringe necklaces like this) but have a go and make your own.

shop love - gypsy nation vintage

Gypsy Nation: 70 North 7th Street (bet Kent Wythe). 2 blocks from Bedford Avenue.
***
On the weekend I visited Gypsy Nation Vintage, a stall at the Artists & Flea market in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I've been before, but this time I returned to take pictures (and erm...try on more pieces).
***
The Navajo/gypsy feel of everything is (to me) brilliant. I didn't want to leave and I think the two owners, Jacqueline and Martha noticed (but they were so nice). Thank God they don't mind having a good old natter. I imagined sitting cross legged on the floor, swapping thrift/vintage find stories and discussing the merits of high street/designer vs vintage but thought that might be pushing it (maybe next time).
Jacqueline (has a custom leather label called Queen of Hearts) and makes clothes and accessories including leather fringe bags, hip grazing leather fringe necklaces and lariats (she told me she was finishing up custom skinny leather trousers with detailing down the side of each leg).

A free spirits Aladdin's cave.

ps. Yes, I did get something. Can you guess what it was?
