beam me up scotty

Dress: Vintage. Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell "Clinics". Bag: Balenciaga. Hat: H&M. Black wool dress (Unseen): H&M. Parka: GAP
I've been wearing these space age shoes (my nick name for them) a lot since I bought them on sale at LF. They are literally beyond comfortable and get the most looks and spontaneous conversations from strangers more than any shoe I've ever worn. (During this shoot two girls asked me where did I get them).
To avoid freezing, I layered one of my fave vintage dresses over a black wool polo neck dress. (You remember when I wore this dress belted with a fur jacket here?). I doubled up on the tights again and wore the wool beanie (gasp! no fedora!?).
Melting snow is everywhere so the drops on the dress were inevitable. Welcome to New York winters....

Dress: Forever 21. Head piece: Dame
I've always loved Dame jewellery pieces so was I chuffed when they sent me their 'Athena' head piece.
Last time I wore anything head related was last summer here, but this one at least can be worn more off the face (or closer to the hair line - however you want).
I may have found a replacement for my fedora when it gets warmer although I've worn it out at night already ; -)

Have a good weekend!
ps. Anyone see the snow we got in NYC today?? Of course, Sir Oliver loves it.

These two danced forever. Parties where everyone's just standing around isn't a party.
Girl on right is Sophie Conti. See her hilarious interview on Stylelikeu here.

Dress: Thrifted. Hat: Trash & Vaudeville. Fringe ankle boots: All Saints. Bag: same as usual ; -) Leather jacket (unseen): Zara
Last night (in the pouring rain) I went to the Oak party to celebrate the launch of their fourth mag issue; Oakazine.
I met up with friends Tay Trong and Gemma (Fade to Black) where we basically ran into the same crowds seen during New York fashion week.
After a couple of hours, we headed down town to The Rivington Hotel to the Stylelikeu party. Stylelikeu is one of my fave style websites, capturing New York's take on personal style via video. The venue was full of those who have appeared on the website.
I wore a floor length burgundy sequin dress with side pockets. (It's darker in real life. Blame the camera flash) with a fedora and my black All Saints boots.

layer in sweats

Jacket: Forever 21. Flared jeans: 18th Amendment. Scarf: London. Bag: <--- you all know it by now
Even though it's still chilly in New York, I have to say, this Forever 21 jacket isn't that bad. I layered a hoodie under it that I got from a west coast trip and I live in it. Indoors and out.
Actually, I love any kind of grey gym clothes (like these American Apparel jogging pants). All winter I've been layering gym stuff outdoors under all sorts plus wearing them indoors with my feet up while watching stuff like 24 (love Jack) with a cuppa. ps. Anyone else think the story line with that blonde being black mailed by her ex is so lame??
pps. Big thank you for your comments below on the 1 year blog anniversary.
No hang on: Blogversary? Brilliant.

happy birthday to my blog!

Holy crap! This month marks one year since I started this blog.
I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you who has been following and reading it along the way - especially those who've been following from the beginning. You know who you are ; - ) To those who just started: 'hello and welcome!'
You all honestly do keep me going.
If someone had told me that I would have been involved in even half the opportunities that have come my way this year, I would have burst out laughing.
With no real plan, other than to have a creative release, I can now honestly say that nothing beats finding a way to do what you love. Make sure you do too.

The Show: Carolina Herrera Fall Winter 2010 - Part Two

I love this shot showing Carolina Herrera doing last minute checks just before the models turn the corner. Per the video from last night's post, Lori Goldstein is by her side doing the same
Abbey Lee (center) wears the wool shift dress that I was looking at backstage with Lori. Agyness Deyn wears black high waisted trousers with a white blouse
The finale
Definitely a morning I'll remember for a while
42 models + 42 outfits = 1 huge show.
The second video was my attempt to capture the feel of actually being at a major fashion show as key figures from the industry began taking their seats. (I've always loved Joe Zee, Creative Director of US Elle magazine, so it was lovely to grab a few words).
Hope you guys enjoyed the tour with me.
Once again, special thanks to Lori Goldstein and Carolina Herrera.

Backstage: Carolina Herrera Fall Winter 2010 - Part One

Stylist Lori Goldstein with model Rihanne Ten Haken

(thank you both for the interviews during the back stage craziness)
Left to right: Natasha Poly and model of the moment - Abbey Lee (loved her outfit here)
From left to right: Natasha Poly, Agyness Deyn & Arlenis Sosa. Agyness came in wearing a gorge military coat. I asked her where did she buy it, even though I already knew the answer: it's vintage!
Karen Elson texting away. She opened the show
Arlenis Sosa posed for a close up. I had to grab this shot
Last Monday I was fortune enough to have had the opportunity to preview the Carolina Herrera Fall Winter 2010 collection with one of the most accomplished stylists in the fashion industry - Lori Goldstein.
Her prolific experience ranges from working with top fashion magazines including Vogue (worldwide) and Vanity Fair to notable brand advertising campaigns to A-list celebrities. If you haven't seen it already, check out her recent work styling the front cover and feature spread for Rihanna in W magazine - seen here. To stay updated with Lori's latest projects, click on her Facebook page here.
As their creative consultant, Lori walked me through the collection which was true Carolina Herrera; luxe day wear and red carpet evening gowns.
Being my first time ever backstage, I attempted to be the (calm is-this-really happening) fly on the wall whilst being immersed in the incredible pre-show madness.
Lori - I cannot thank you enough.
ps. Next post is the show itself.

bathroom antics

Shoes: Jessica Simpson. Dress: Forever 21. Socks: H&M. Crucifix: Fashionology.
More wood!
After a month ago of twittering (that's a word??) about these monster wood platforms, I finally got them after enlisting a girlfriend's thoughts during a 'should I get them after weeks of pondering?' Macys trip.
Finally - an alternative to the leopard prints which I've been wearing for ages.
The tan and wood reminds me a bit of the Celine Spring 2010 collection here where I LOVED seeing models wear nude wood platforms with everything.
The lace dress is Forever 21 bought about 3 weeks ago when it surfaced on their site. (I've just about given up trying to find a vintage version from a thrift shop).
ps. Have you lot started looking around at spring shoes yet?
***
UPDATE!!!Have a peak at Erika from Fashion Chalet's post here on how she wore the same shoes!

jaws

Fur jacket: Thrift. Tshirt: Christopher Kane. Thermals: Not seen. Boots: AF Vandevorst. Bag: Thrift (DIY studded). Leggings: American Apparel. Hoodie: Mens H&M
Even though it's the weekend, I still felt like wearing height, so yesterday these platform wedges saw me through Saturday (more pics of them here).
I remember wearing the Kane T here in the summer but really like how it looks now against wools and fur.
I've literally been living in these American Apparel winter leggings and layered their thigh high socks on top.
ps. It's NY fashion week and today I went to the Catherine Malandrino and Y-3 shows. Tomorrow I get to do something that I've never done before: go back stage to watch final preparations for a major designer's show. I still can't believe it. Trust me I'll be taking loads of pics to post here!
