flapper

Dress: H&M. Patent leather Doc Martens: Thrift/Buffalo Exchange. Bag: Thrift/Buffalo Exchange in New Orleans. Feather earrings: H&M. Stone ring: YSL. Gold band: LowLuv x Erin Wasson courtesy of TOBI.
I just realized as I write this that everything (except the earrings) was bought on clearance or thrifted/second hand.
I've wanted a flapper style dress for years but never bothered buying one till I spotted this one slashed to $7. It comes in black, peach and ivory (which I went with).
Happy July 4th America (another day off for the expats). It's better watching the sun set knowing I don't have to work the next day.

  14. Every time you wear Docs I'm closely examining the whole outfit haha :) ... You always pair them so good. I had Docs while I was a teenager; threw them away and now I want them back. And I have to say I love these shiny version.
Which one would you recommend these shinier ones or standard matte black?

Anyways love the outfit I'm always up for contrast look; feminine dress and manly boots.
And the pictures are great; especially like that one with a close up on your bag; it has sunset and the green grass and its full of color.

    Enjoy your day off :)

  30. Ok... I am just dying for those boots. Your outfit is such a contradiction and all the pieces are tugging at each other but it makes such a bold fashion statement and I love to break rules. You pulled it off beautifully. I LOVE IT. Just what I love to see...

  38. $7!? Seven freaking dollars! Amazing, that dress is beautiful. This images are so breathtaking, especially the last four.

And I love the hair, Ive done everything to get my hair like that but it never has enough volume. Do you do braidouts or twist outs and then unravel and loosen the curls a bit?

  42. Dear Karen,
Sorry for writing a 2nd comment, but I thought I'd ask for your help. :)

I've been invited to sit in front row of a haute couture show in the near future. I'm so flattered, never attended one before. Are there some rules as to what to wear? "lol" Thank you for your time.

  50. I love your dress it's so cute Keiko Lynn has the same dress in peach and she looks fab in hers too. The thing I love about this dress is that even though the dress is not that basic you both rock this dress so well in your own very cool ways!!! Any way I love how you both wear the dress it' s so cute 'n edgy!!!!

  51. Anon - good idea on getting another.

Charleston - woah not heard my hair described with that word before ; )

Marine - I did end up swapping them out for something more airy actually.

SaraKateSwan - I'm glad fringe dresses are now available at more price points.

The Original Swedish Blonde - trying wearing a piece by the designer if you have it. If not, just dress very sleek and wear killer shoes! Even if you dress around those.

Vanja - hard to say. I have both matte and shiny and so far I like both equally for diff reasons. The patents are more fun and the matte are more classic/old school/original.

Fashion Chalet - my little contribution to the holiday ; ) thx!

Flybynight - thx. I don't reply to every single comment but certainly read them all and to me it's only right to respond back instead of massing up comments and ignoring questions etc. As a blog reader too, it at least makes me feel appreciated/acknowledged.

Thx everyone! It's a fun dress for a ridiculous price.

  55. Now here's a question (of sorts), as I am a bit baffled by this whole business of thrifting/vintage/and what not: I own the very same pair of patent leather Docs that you're wearing and they are very much a current style. Though you purchased yours at Buffalo Exchange -- which is dubbed as a "vintage store," don't you think there's a bit of a misnomer going on? I'm not trying to split hairs, I just feel a bit frustrated by this sort of flip use of the word "vintage" and places that purport to be "vintage" shops.
