I found this venetian mirror for a steal at a barn far upstate selling thrift/vintage items. The cedar trunk at the foot of the bed is thrifted (contains bed sheets and blankets)

Recent gift from Michael. I love sock monkeys. Anyone catch the car tv ad featuring one dreaming of being an adult hanging out at bars and nightclubs?

Anyone have recommendations along the lines of these? (I'm still reading Power of Now)

Left: Magnets and pictures on the side of the fridge. Right: The clay house (bought in New Orleans) has mirrors for the windows/doors

My basket of crisps. How could this Brit not return to New York without these?

Michael in the kitchen

The hallway was all beige until I painted it (with no help so feeling quite chuffed) in these colours (painted the arch on the glass on the door too). Sir Oliver's pawing on the door to go for walks means re-painting around the handle needs to happen more often

Far left: Stairs leading up to the second floor (rented) and ladder I painted in blue, leads to the roof. The hall mirror on the right was a flea market find

One of my favourite shots of Miles Davis plus another flea market found venetian mirror

An old trunk/treasure chest with leather handles acts a large side table on the end of the sofa (flea market find again)

Our wall of jazz pics. The one far right next to Sammy Davis Jr, is Miles Davis talking to Steve McQueen. Two legends sharing a joke

A few random shots taken.

These are so great!
ReplyDeleteI like all the flea-market finds. The ones we have here are really junky...but another man's trash...
I bought an adorable handmade sock money last year for my new cousin. The material is so soft. I just wanted to keep it for myself!
The flavor of those chips look so yummy! I wonder if there is an on-line site that imports goodies from different countries and sells them all in one place? Not sure how the FDA could regulate it, though.
The paint job looks great. Even Sir Oliver's contribution to it!
I LOVE Venetian mirrors too! have a gorge one for my dresser
ReplyDeleteit looks so cozy...and that mirror is absolutely amazing!!!! if I had a more permanent home, i'd love to decorate...i'm thinking of mounting antlers above my bed though....haha

ReplyDeleteOMG! Chili and chocolate crisps? That sounds crazy delicious.
ReplyDeleteYou're making me cry with that photo of the crisps... I got some Walker's Worcestershire, Prawn Cocktail, and Cheese & Onion crisps last week at a Brit shop in NYC but they were all gone within two days ;) Those Chili & Chocolate ones do sound insanely good!
ReplyDeleteI love the tour of your home... I'm jealous of your Venetian mirror finds! And kudos on the fabulous paint job in your front hall, especially that arch on the door!
Read "Happier Than God" by Neale Donald Walsch. I'm not religious and I was skeptical about it but it's a quick read and awesome!
ReplyDeleteI was re-reading "The Secret" on the train one night and the guy next to me was reading HTG. We started talking because the author is featured in "The Secret" as well. He'd never read "The Secret" and I'd never even heard of HTG. Long story short, we traded books right then and there!
You should also read "Conversations With God". SO good...I see your books are worn. Do you revisit from time to time for a refresher?
Devan

Devan!!! - I LOVE Conversations with God!!! I read all 3 book by Neale and I've never seen life the same since. I almost want to read them again. I wasn't aware of HTG. I'm definitely getting it. Thank you : )
ReplyDeleteJennifer - Ha!! addictive aren't they? Hmmm Prawn Cocktail and Cheese and Onion omg omg omg!!! drooling..
Dee - thank you : )) See you soon.
Anon - yes he is
McMaris - I love flea markets
Taylor B - nice you have the hand made version. LOVE Sock Monkeys!!!!
Mod Human - thx and oh you do, do you? ; ) He's not much for being in front of the camera. He's more the behind the lens type.
Neekoh - Glad I was able to help with this post! good timing for you. Hope your place comes out how you want it to. It will if you take your time to find that right piece that always comes along eventually.
I was also going to recommend Conversations w God, I re-read book 1 & 2 once a year, its a must! A New earth was also really good, you should check out "God and the Evolving Universe" co written by James Redfield who also wrote The Celestine Prophecy, another great read! I devour personal evolution books, glad to hear you also enjoy! xxx

too much to say but I will settle on this:
ReplyDeleteI love BK!
As a fellow South African, I love the crisps.
Michael is so hip with that hat on...he needs his own style blog.
What's up with those amazing candles costing an arm and a leg!
Love your Jazz wall...my baby's nursery is inspired by jazz photos :)
your place has great lighting! and it's so clean and organized! my room doesn't even compare to this!
ReplyDeletedeathbyplatforms.blogspot.com/
oh good... i was going to also recommend all the conversations with god books. i have all 3 in one and find myself picking it up quite often for a little "pick me up" so to say. haha. i also wanted to mention all of the abraham hicks books. 'ask and it is given' is a good one to start with. 'the secret' was actually taken from their teachings. other than that i would say you are on a great path.
ReplyDeletealso your taste in design is amazing. i love all the white in your bedroom. gorgeous.

read the buddha said... by osho. or autobiography of a yogi by paramhansa yogananda. anything by osho is pretty good for a read. the power of now is an amazing book.
ReplyDeleteAmy - thank you. So glad I asked about book recs because now I have a few to go through. I'm starting with Happier than God as recommended above by Devan.
ReplyDeleteApparellel - Thanks for the rec!
Hey Karen! I LOVE your blog but never comment.. I know, shame on me.. lol... But when I saw our book choices I knew I had to suggest "Conversations w God".. It looks like someone else agrees :o) .. They are definitely great reads!
ReplyDeleteWow thank you so much for sharing the pics of your house! I really, really love it and am going to save them to my "inspirations" folder for when I have a place of my own. The colours in the hallway in particular are to die for. Thanks again xxxxx
ReplyDeletei just made 2 matching sock monkeys today, they sit on my quilt and duvet pile next to my bed!
ReplyDeletei really love your beautiful home karen. your bedroom especially :)
ReplyDeleteand that commercial where the sock monkey dreams of going out with all of the other toys is one of my favorites! it cracked me up when you posted a pic of your new toy on twitter.

Hey Karen! Have you blasted through Happier Than God Yet? I loaned my copy to my aunt, but I'm just going to buy it again and let her keep the other. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I don't comment much but I check you blog daily. It's so inspirational and I love your boldness with fashion. Keep up the great work!
Devan - Im still reading it!! I'm really taking my time and re-reading pages and paragraphs so the information sinks in so I'm not speed reading.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible.
Thank you
Imreallyamermaid - thanks for the rec.
Caylee - I love this sock monkey so much!
Hey there!
ReplyDeleteGood book recommendation - Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn. Good, fun read. It's the book that gave me my 'Ah-ha!' moment, when everything clicked from all the other books I read before it. It's not deeply intense (like Power of Now, New Earth, etc. ) but it makes a lot of things make sense. Hope you have a chance to read it. Enjoy!
Vey pretty, love the frames on the wall makes a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI'm desperate for a trunk at the side of my bed.
